Movie Review of Blow

Blow is a fantastic watch and stars Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz. This is a movie that is filled with drama and is directed by Ted Demme. This movie is a true story of how the american cocaine market was founded by a man named George Jung who was claimed to have been responsible for cocaine becoming the drug of choice for the rich and famous back in the 70's.
I compared the movie Blow to a book called Tweak by Nic Scheff. It's also a true story, and is about a guy named Nic who has a wonderful life but is really exposed as a child. Nic moves to New York and becomes addicted to meth. He ends up living on the streets and using all the time. This reminds me of the movie Blow because it is also a true story and George Jung looses everything aswell as Nic.
In the movie, George and his best friend "Tuna" (Ethan Supple), decide to sell marijuana in small amounts moving then onto larger sums. Sooner or later they progress onto cocaine. He soon has the time of his life. While selling weed he gets caught and goes to jail. George escapes from jail to be with his girlfriend while she is sick, until she dies of cancer. After this, Jung is on the run and meets up with his friend Pablo that he met in jail, and they start selling cocaine. What he doesn't know is that everyone he is with will betray him. In the end, George gets married, has a daughter and then lives in jail for a long time. He never saw his daughter ever again.
I really enjoy this movie and it is one of my favourites. I don't do drugs myself but i really find addictions interesting and i like to watch/hear about other people's challenges. I also think its really sad that George never gets to see his daughter because he messed up his life, and that this is a true story. Things like this happen to people daily so it's really interesting to know about.
In the end, I think everyone should watch this movie. Its an amazing story and is funny at times. I recommend everyone to rent it.

About Me :)

My name is Robin Mighton and I have graduated. I am taking a fifth year to finish up some things before going off to college. I have brown hair with blonde highlights, freckles, brown eyes and I am short. I enjoy going to parties, hanging out with friends, dancing and playing baseball. I really enjoy music. My favourite bands are System of a Down, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Choking Victim, Leftover Crack, Metric, Rage Against The Machine, Eminem and more. My favourite type of music is metal.
I am excited about this semester because when it is over I will be totally done with highschool and i will be turning 19 years old. I work at No Frills so I will most likely be working there a lot once I am done. I am hoping to go to Conestoga or Fanshawe College next year to take early childhood education.
What comes to mind when thinking about this semester is turning leaves, coats, boots, scarves and winter. I am looking foward to it and I hope to achieve a higher mark in this class then the mark I recieved last year. :)

Horror Genre

The reason that I like horror is because I like being scared. When I was a kid I used to get extremly scared from watching horror movies. One time after watching The Blair Witch Project and Haloween H2O in the same night I had to sleep in my sisters room for a week. Even though I knew I would get really scared everytime I still wanted to watch them. I can handle horror movies much better now and I still love them. I recently saw The Crazies in theatres. It wasn`t that scary it was more suspenseful then anything. I really like an older film called The Strangers. I also really like all the Final Destinations, The Saws, The Sixth Sense, The Butterfly Effect, The Ring, The Orphan. I really liked The Orphan. It was about a girl that a family adopted that dressed really old fashioned and became obsessed with the fathers of the families. It turned out that the little girl was actually a 30 year old short women that made herself look like a little girl. In the end she killed the husband and she tried to kill the other kids. She tried many things to kill them but at the end the wife ends up kicking the girl into the pond and she dies. This is probably one of my favourite movies. This movie made me feel scared to adopt a child in the near future. I think humans like the horror genre because it gets peoples adrenaline going and people like to get excited.

Superhero Subgenre

Superheros are a fun thing to dream about and laugh about but it is always good to know that they arn`t real. When I was a kid i believed superwomen was real, well I believed everything was true and real at that time. I think the subgenre is trying to tell society something. I think it is telling society that there are special people in the world that are superheros to one another. Everyone looks up to something or someone in their lives. Kids brains are like spounges so superheros to them seem real. I do not have a favourite superhero at the moment. To be honest I am not really into superheros and random creatures with special powers, nothing like that. It is fun to try to believe and imagine things but nothing to intense. I think our society needs superheros so that they can believe there is a higher power. We`ve had superman, spiderman, batman and the hulk and to be honest I do not know what superhero will be next. I have not given it much thought. I think that the next superhero should be a women though, because we do not have a lot of women superheros.

Action/Adventure Genre

Personally, I enjoy the action/adventure genre. I really like movies where there is a chase. When someone is running from a murder, from a dog or just going on a run I think it is very exciting. It keeps me interested to find out what is going to happen next. I also like shooting movies and mofia movies/books. I like when people are yelling and swearing at eachother and start getting mad at eachother because it is awsome to see them all wrilled up and ready to kill someone because of a drug deal or something. I mean it isn`t awsome when stuff like that happens in real life, just in movies and books. One of my favourite action movies is Resovoir Dogs. There is one scence where there is just so much killing and freaking out, it is pretty intense. I used to play nintendo 64 and my favourite game was probably 007. It used to freak me out a little bit because I was so young but it was sweet trying to hide your player from the other player and then sneak around to shoot one another. I think the action and adventure genre is my third favourite genre. My favourite genre is Comedy and my second favourite genre is horror.

The Pretties

I love to read and I wanted to make sure that the book I choose would be interesting enough for me to want to read it all. First I chose a book about a young teen who had schizophrenia. It was good at the start, but it became quite confusing because the girl's thoughts were all so random and I wasn't understanding. I decided to change my book to "The Pretties" by Scott Westerfeld. It is a science fiction series and The Pretties is the second book out of four. I have already read the first one called "The Uglies" and it was really good. The Uglies is about a world of people who just live normally but are ugly and all have pretty parents. Everyone has to turn pretty when they are 16. The only way an ugly can not become pretty is if they escape Uglyville and run away to the ruins. The main character Tally becomes best friend with a girl named Shay. Shay doesn't want to turn pretty so she runs away to the ruins and leaves Tally behind. The only way Tally could become pretty according to the Specials, was if she went to the ruins and found Shay. From there she would have to rat everyone out so that the Specials can make everyone pretty. In the end everyone does become pretty. In The Pretties, Tally and her new friends recieve these pills from their friends from the ruins and take them. The pills help them slowly become not pretty. The reason they do not want to be pretty is because being pretty causes lesions in your brain and doesn't make you think for yourself. The series sounds very very confusing but that is because I am bad at explaing things. I am almost done The Pretties and I am quite excited.

Olympics

I have never really been interested in the Olympics because I was younger at the time and didn't really care. I don't like sports and I was not planning on watching the Olympics this year but my father always had it on T.V. I enjoyed watching things like luge, skiing, hockey, figure skating and snowboarding. I am not sure what some of the other sports are called but they were pretty cool. I feel the Canadian Olympics represents our country well and I liked how the Olympics were held in Vancouver in our own country. It is not held very often so when it is happening, it is really exciting :)

Review of The Book of Eli

The Book of Eli stars Denzel Washington and Mila Kunis. It is basically about the world going to shit and a lone blind man fights his way across America to protect a sacred book from everyone else. After the war and the "Big flash" all the Bibles were burnt and gone. Eli had the last real Bible.
Eli takes his book with him and hopes to get to the East. He believes that in the East there is a place where people live normally again with water, food and shelter.
He is unhurtable. He fights off everyone he sees and can not die. He is sent from God. He wants to find people that will truly benefit from the Bible and meets a leader of a society who is Solara's father (Mila Kunis). He hunts Eli down for his book and in the end gets the book from him. The book is filled with brail, which fools the leader since he can not read brail. This is because Eli is blind. He is a blind man who somehow can kill and protect everything from him to survive across America. Instead of sharing the Bible with him, he finds a different place filled with honest, good people and recites the bible by memory. It becomes published.
In the end Eli and Solara (Mila Kunis) find a home and survive. Eli dies and Solara takes over his job and roams across America.
This is a very good movie and I recommend it to all. It is nothing like any movies coming out these days.

Second Semester

My name is Robin. I have long wavy brown hair, freckles and brown eyes. I like to party almost all the time and I enjoy hanging out with friends. Music is one of my biggest intrests. I really enjoy heavy metal and punk. It is hard to find someone who likes both of those genres because metal heads are usually against acid punks. Anyway I really like Leftover Crack, Choking Victim, Slipknot, Manson, Disturbed, etc. I also like the more alternative music such as things like metric, yeah yeah yeahs, modest mouse and things like that. Basically I like everything but country.
First semester was hard enough, so I am not looking foward to second semester. The workload won't be as bad this time because all of my classes are pretty hands on but, it's still school. I am hoping to get really high marks since my classes are pretty easy. I say that every year and it never happens so I hope it actually does this time.
When I think of second semster I think of warmer weather and the spring. It makes me think of going outside and only coming to school with a t-shirt and pants on. We can get rid of all the bulk clothing, such as coats, scarves, hats and mits.
Hopefully this semester will be successful and memorable.

The Suprising Gift- A Novel

Writing a novel never seemed possible. If someone told me last year to write a novel, I would have never even thought about it. Even when I joined Writers Craft I didn't think we were going to write a novel. I was able to make it up to 4518 words. 5000 words was my goal, but i felt like I was at the part where I was finished writing.
My novel is about a couple who do not get along. Tom thinks so but that is only because he is an abusive drug addict. Kat met Tom in highschool but they were only friends. When highschool ended Kat felt different about Tom. She and him became drug dealers and dealt for Tom's friend Carl.
I write about whenTom and Kat live together with their cat Mulise. Basically Tom beats the shit out of her and Kat tries to leave. She attempts it once, but it didn't work. The second time she hit Tom over the head and knocked him out. Carl was on his way over to the house and caught Kat trying to leave. They locked her in the bathroom. Kat escaped from the bathroom and basically starts her life over and falls in love with a man. In the end, Tom and Carl find her and kill her new boyfriend. They do kill Kat, but I did not write about that yet.
My novel is a bit morbid, but it is real life. I mean these things do happen.
